Promethean Planet

www.prometheanplanet.com
This is the website for Promethean Planet, the maker of ACTIVboards. ACTIVboard is the type of interactive whiteboard I have in my class. I need to find an article next that discusses the major differences between white boards because I don’t know how my board is different from others. Anyway… this site provides teachers with ACTIVboards a wide variety of resources and training. It has a large collection of flipcharts for all ages and subjects and provides tips for using the board effectively. They even host contests to promote flipchart contributions. Best of all – it’s free! You just have to register.

What an excellent link and resource for teachers! I appreciate this a lot because it is helping me understand more about using the interactive white boards. I can forsee a time when every classroom has one of these.

I think the link I put on my March 16th blog had some of what you might want. There was the section under the FDLRS sight that had links to all the different types of IWB's. At least you could see their selling points. I wonder if I can use some of the things from the Promethean website on my SMARTboard? You are lucky that your board is mounted. I wish my projector was attached to the ceiling to eliminate the shadows.

The physical differences between Smart and Promethean have to do with electromagnetic vs resistive technology. Electromagnetic (Promethean) is much more durable and more practical in the classroom. Unlike a Smartboard an Activboard can't be damaged with typical classroom implements such as a ballpoint pen or a compass.
And, you can touch the board while you're writing! What's more natural than resting your hand on the surface you're writing on.

The other big difference is the software and Promethean's dedication to K12, just look at Promethean Planet! 5,000 lessons vs.something like 900 at the Smart site, and EVERYTHING at Promethean Planet is FREE to download. At the Smart site your free downloadable content is limited.
